Ministerial Reference Council for Climate Change Adaptation

Introduction to the Council
In April 2008, the Ministerial Reference Council for Climate Change Adaptation was established by the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, Gavin Jennings. The Council's role is to provide advice to the Minister in relation to building the capacity of Victoria to adapt to climate change across all sectors and regions. The Council also provides advice on adaptation research priorities and developments in adaptation initiatives both nationally and internationally.
The Council is comprised of fifteen members.
The Council brings together expertise in:
- Natural resource management
- Catchment, land and water management
- Planning
- Agriculture
- Education and research
- Climate change science
- Biodiversity
- Social and human health
- Industry
- Commerce and finance
- Law
The Terms of Reference outline the roles and responsibilities of the Council. In summary, the Council provides advice to the Minister in relation to:
- Building Victoria's capability to adapt to climate change across all sectors and regions
- Research priorities for adaptation to climate change
- Making the research findings accessible to policy makers and the public
- The means of aligning research activities on climate change impact assessment and adaptation capacity
- Developments in adaptation to climate change both nationally and internationally.
