Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
The IPCC was established to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant to understanding climate change and its potential impacts, as well as options for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change.
Federal Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency
The Federal Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency leads the development and coordination of Australia’s climate change policies across three areas:
CSIRO
CSIRO is Australia’s largest research organisation, and plays a key role in the development and understanding of climate change science, projections and preparation for the unavoidable impacts.
Bureau of Meteorology
The Bureau of Meteorology provides information on climate variability over time, both globally and in Australia, as well as El Niño and Southern Oscillation events.
Climate Change in Australia
IPCC reports provide limited detail on Australian climate change, particularly when it comes to regional climate change projections. For this reason the Federal Government, through the Australian Climate Change Science Programme, engaged CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology to develop climate change projections for Australia.
